Steam & Stillness

What began as a necessary repair following a water leak became an opportunity to completely reimagine the primary bathroom in this 1974 home. The homeowners saw beyond the dated finishes and inefficient layout, envisioning a space that would support daily rituals of rest, renewal, and well-being. The design focused on creating a personal retreat that feels calm, restorative, and timeless.

The existing layout was reconfigured to accommodate a spacious soaking tub and a steam shower, transforming the bathroom into a spa-inspired environment. With the subfloor already being replaced, the project offered greater flexibility to relocate plumbing and rethink the overall arrangement. A custom tub surround was designed with a quartz surface that extends seamlessly into the shower as an integrated bench, creating visual continuity while enhancing comfort and functionality.

A carefully curated material palette reinforces the sense of serenity throughout the space. White oak cabinetry, quartz countertops, and black fixtures create a balanced composition of warmth and contrast. Glazed ceramic tile installed in a herringbone pattern introduces subtle texture, while aged brass lighting adds a refined finishing touch. Thoughtful details, including a wall-mounted towel warmer, medicine cabinets, integrated storage, and a bidet seat, elevate everyday routines through comfort and convenience.

The result is a bathroom that feels both elevated and deeply personal. Clean architectural lines, layered materials, and wellness-focused features come together to create a space that encourages slowing down and reconnecting at the beginning and end of each day. What was once a dated bathroom has been transformed into a tranquil retreat designed to support modern living with grace, comfort, and intent
