Now The Kitchen Is Opalite

Located in a 1969 neighborhood now welcoming a new generation of young families, this home offered an ideal location but a challenging floor plan. The first floor was defined by small, compartmentalized rooms, limited natural light, and a layout that felt disconnected from the way modern families live. The goal was to transform the home into a bright, open environment centered around connection, functionality, and everyday gathering.

The renovation focused on reimagining the kitchen as the heart of the home. By removing a wall and incorporating the former dining room into the kitchen, the space was opened dramatically, allowing natural light to flow throughout the first floor. A generously sized island with seating for five creates a natural gathering place, while a dedicated bar area supports entertaining and improves circulation. Existing challenges, including multiple soffits, a laundry closet within the kitchen, and structural limitations from plumbing above, required thoughtful planning to create a cohesive and highly functional design.

Custom cabinetry finished in Benjamin Moore Northern Air is paired with a Shoji White island and bar, creating a layered palette that feels both timeless and inviting. Refinished red oak flooring, honey bronze hardware, and Cambria Inverness Everleigh countertops add warmth and texture throughout the space. A custom plaster hood serves as the focal point of the kitchen, complemented by a continuous backsplash and integrated shelf detail that reinforce the clean architectural lines of the design.

Today, the kitchen functions as a bright and welcoming hub where family life unfolds naturally. Improved circulation, enhanced natural light, and carefully considered details have transformed a once dated floor plan into a space that feels open, connected, and effortlessly livable. The result is a kitchen defined by warmth, refined simplicity, and a strong sense of place.

This project won third place at the 2026 NKBA Rocky Mountain Peak Awards in the Large Kitchen category and was awarded the most dramatic kitchen makeover by the Colorado Homes & Lifestyle Magazine!
